A TYPICAL TWO-DAY STONE CARVING WORKSHOP

A friendly introduction to the basics of stone carving where students will be surprised by their own pleasing and satisfying results.

With no previous experience required, students will achieve carving a Tudor rose, Celtic Knot or Medieval beast.

The course will consist of:

Saturday 10.00am start with

Coffee and an introduction to Stone, Tools and Safety.

Setting out.

The use of the tools and basic stonemasonry techniques.

Masonry

Lunch with cider.

Basic carving techniques

Carving with guidance.

4.30pm finish.

Sunday 10.00am start with

Surface textures and finishing off.

A TWO-DAY LETTER CUTTING WORKSHOP

A friendly introduction to the basics of letter carving where students will be surprised by their own pleasing and satisfying results.

With no previous experience required, students will achieve carving their own house name or number as well as learning the basics of incised letter cutting for longer inscriptions.

The course will consist of:

Saturday 10.00am start with

Coffee and an introduction to the Stone, Tools and Safety.

The use of the tools and their sharpening.

Choosing the stone

Basic letter cutting theory.

Practice cutting

Lunch with cider.

Setting out the inscription

Carving the uprights

4.30pm finish.

Sunday 10.00am start with

Coffee, encouragement and advice.

Improving the shapes

And carving the ends (serifs)

Lunch with cider.

More carving and finishing off.

Drill and attach fixing pins etc.,

4.30pm stand back and admire.
